Approved as printed. Pastors Report: Father Tony said he
wanted to thank our youth for being at the meeting, not only to report on the
NCYC trip, but also to hear ideas that they may have for our parish and to utilize
their talents. Father mentioned the newsletter was in the mail with a special
handout prepared by the Communications committee of the Faith Facilities. Father
encouraged all to read the newsletter but especially the handout.
Father had questions for all of us. What is it that distinguishes Christianity
from all other world Religions, and What distinguishes the
Catholic Church from other Christian Churches? Father mentioned
these questions because we will be starting a new program in the fall entitled
Why Catholic? This should start in the fall of 2006 and will be in
6-week segments, in small communities of 8 to 14 people. Father encouraged us
to read a couple of articles from the Catholic Messenger. Open
Discussion Presentation by NCYC Youth: Brenda handed out a written agenda
of the schedule for the entire time they were at NCYC. She then turned it over
to the youth. The youth put together a slide presentation which was done with
the music of Winds of Change, that was their theme song. It
was very well done. They thanked us for letting them come and share their thoughts.
The consensus of the students was they enjoyed sharing the Eucharist and their
love of God with so many youth from all over the country. Father Thom and Joe
Leonard both said they were very proud of all the youth. Father Tony asked them
if they had any suggestions for us on what we could do better or do for them.
It was suggested we try to get more teens involved in the Life Teen Mass. Joe
stressed the need for the teens to contact him, the priests or council members
if they have something they would like to talk about. The teens feel it would
be a good idea to be involved in the plans for the new church. Old
Business: None New Business: Choose Discussion Topic for
January 19, 2006 meeting: Joe asked us to choose a topic for discussion.
Michelle Griffin suggested Question 4: How do we develop more of a Musical
Ministry? Father Tony suggested we have Andy Tadlock and Brian Dixon in
on this discussion. Father Tony also suggested we look at good approaches for
sharing our faith as another topic. Joe stated in our January meeting we will
be discussing ways to develop our music ministry. Some discussion followed.
Advent Quiz: Bev passed out a quiz on Advent. Tis the season
to test our skills. Faith Facilities Report: A written
report was submitted. Mike Pittman reported on many phases being reviewed. The
preliminary revised master plan will be distributed at the next meeting. We are
looking at building the Administration Offices at the same time as the church.
We want it to be a seven-day a week facility. We feel this is very doable.
Prince of Peace School Report: A written report was submitted.
Laurel Decker stated the elementary window replacement project is almost complete.
Alliant Energy did an energy audit and copies have been distributed. We received
a grant for $2000 for automatic door openers to make the building more handicap
accessible. Mike Pittman suggested they contact Alliant Energy about rebates for
the new windows. COMMISSION REPORTS: Parish Life: No written
report. Sister Mary Ann talked about the Pictorial Directory going well. The last
day scheduled for pictures is November 26th and there are still a few
spots open on November 22nd. Father asked about the activity pages
for the various organizations. Sister said Connie was handling that and Mary Beth
Butt offered to check with Connie. Liturgical & Spiritual Life
Commission: No Report. Denise stated that there has not been a meeting
since the last council meeting. Social Action Commission: A
written report was submitted. Lenny Weih said the Taste of Peru
program was well attended. Habitat for Humanity is continuing to raise money and
hopes to start construction on their first house in the spring. We are now officially
a Pax Christi Parish. Lenny stated they all saw a short video, Welcoming
the Stranger Among Us, which was produced by the Diocese. It is recommended
that the various offices and organizations in the parish, including the school
and religious education classes, use it. Chuck Rutledge reported on the Charity
committee. They did a total distribution of $2,250 and are reserving some funds
in anticipation of requests for heating assistance. Finance Commission:
Ed Kross reported that we will have fuel collections each weekend during the winter,
and Ed said it speaks very highly for our parish that they always respond when
asked. Responses for increase in Sunday envelope giving was about one-half saying
they would increase, and of the one-half that could not increase said they would
help with fuel collection. Ed said they have started actively to market the St.
Patricks property. Dave Schnier reported that we are less than $4000 from
our ADA goal or at about 97% of our goal. We are continuing to do some follow-up.
Faith Formation: A written report was submitted. Kathy DeMong reported
it is all in the report. Betty Mantsch said that there was an article in the Catholic
Messenger about the Catechists Inservice held last Wednesday night. The
DREs and the Clinton and Davenport Deaneries worked for six months setting
this up. It is a perfect opportunity for catechists and Catholic school teachers
to get together and hear speakers about areas of interest. Father Thom
led us in closing prayer. NEXT MEETING: Thursday, January
19th, 2006, 7:00 P.M. at St. Boniface Hall. Respectfully submitted:
Beverly Putman
