Election of Officers: Lenny stated since we had no members stating they would run, he opened up the floor for nominations. Hearing no nominations for Secretary, Joe Leonard made a motion, seconded by Cathy Eggers, that Beverly Putman remains as Secretary. No nominations for Vice President, Joe Leonard asked if Marc Smith would be willing to be Vice-President and Marc said yes, so Joe then made a motion, seconded by Cathy Eggers, that Marc Smith becomes our new Vice-President. Joe made a motion, seconded by Mary Beth Butt, that Lenny Weih remains as President. All motions passed unanimously.

Pastor’s Report: Father Tony mentioned that we have a lot happening in our Parish. Father mentioned that Bishop Amos is reviving the Diocesan Pastoral Council and it will involve 2 meetings a year and Father would like to have someone from our Parish attend. Father mentioned the myriad of activities going on at all times in our Parish and he wants to thank everyone for their involvement and we sometimes don’t appreciate all the ministries and the staff of our Parish.

Open Discussion - Survey attached – to discuss Questions 1 and 2.  “List at least three strengths that you see us having as a Parish and what are the three weaknesses that need to be addressed in our parish”.  Lenny asked to open up the floor for thoughts. Some of the items on strengths that were mentioned were positive attitude, generosity, resilience, moving forward, concept of Stewardship starting to take hold, more parishioners getting involved, great priests and staff, unity, ever-growing core of parishioners working to live their faith, sense of purpose, to name just a few.  Some of the weaknesses are not knowing how to outreach the young adults, better communication to know which parishioners are in nursing homes, continue to be warm and welcoming, need fellowship after every Mass, bankruptcy, need more family involvement, work with children of divorce, just to name a few. Father mentioned the problem of the ever-changing makeup of the family. For the first time ever the Quad City Times reported that less than 50% of households are married households.

Old Business: None

New Business:

A. Parish Dinner: Cathy Eggers said anybody that can volunteer to help at the Pork Dinner would be greatly appreciated. The kitchen is where help is most needed. Cathy said by making phone calls to new people to chair the different areas all she had to do was make one phone call for each and she had the positions filled.  It shows that people are willing to help and they just need to be called.

B. Renewal – Parish Mission -  “The Road to Emmaus”: Father Tony talked about the renewal on October 1st through October 4th. There will be five opportunities to attend with one being on Wednesday morning andthe balance at 7 P.M. in the evening at Sacred Heart Church. Father encouraged us all to attend as many as possible.  Father said there was going to be a Retreat at the Canticle on Monday, October 1st from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. for all Parish staff and church leaders. Any and all of the Pastoral Council who wishes to attend may call the parish office by Wednesday, September 26th, to make a reservation. Bev will send an email reminder.

Facilities Report: Written report submitted. Mike said that Estes plans on having the Maximum Price Proposal to the parish no later than October 12th. Carpet patterns have been selected. Floor surface in Sanctuary is still under study. Mike said that you could walk the outer area and see where the circular drive will be. Photos of all the artifacts from existing churches have been sent to RDG along with wood samples of the confessionals, choir rail and other items to be studied.  Father Tony said the pews would be padded.

Prince of Peace School Report: Written report submitted. Rose Ancheta stated the Middle School service day is being planned for October 12th and they will start the day with a Living Rosary and all are welcome. On October 19th the 6th grade students will travel to Davenport for Vocation’s Day. Students will learn about various vocations about religious life as a priest or sister. Rose also mentioned the information about ways to help low income families afford to send their children to our parish school.

COMMISSION REPORTS:
Parish Life Commission: No report
Liturgical & Spiritual Life Commission: Father Thom reported they met in August and will be meeting on Saturday, September 29th, and they are going through the Liturgical Year using the Assessment Tool from the Diocese. Father also mentioned they are still looking for someone to head up the Liturgical Environment Committee but that Frank Cornwell thinks they might have someone in mind to take over those duties.
Social Action Commission: Written report submitted. Marc Smith said there are eight churches who have verbally committed to the Apostles Build for Habitat. Marc stated that Father John Dear would be here and giving a talk at Vista Grande from 1 to 4 P.M. on October 7th.  There will be a presentation on November 18th from the pilgrims who went to Peru this summer.

Odelia said we had very positive reactions from parishioners who received thank you calls for volunteering and they are working on ways to make sure everyone is called.

Lenny stated that at the next meeting we would cover number 3 and 4 of the survey.
