Hearing no other nominations from the floor the above are now the officers for the 2008-2009 session.

Pastors Report: Father Tony stated that he and Father Thom had an e-mail that the Mom’s group received from a former member of our parish. She stated that “Prince of Peace parish has a very welcoming, close and active parish and that of all the parishes we have attended, Prince of Peace is the model by which all others should model themselves.” Father mentioned the Open House on October 12th and the October 17th event at Gil’s. Father stated that the President of the Council is an ex-officio member of the Finance Committee, which is held the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Father stated that both Lenny and Tom will represent the Pastoral Council on the Finance committee.

Old Business: None
New Business:
(A) Parish Dinner: There are two couples involved in the set up. All has been reported as ready.
(B) New Church Open House: Father stated the Open House will be October 12th and Brenda
mentioned the Crop Walk, so looking at noon to 2:00 pm. We will have a ceremony for the blessing of the cornerstone and time capsule. Was suggested we have the ceremony at noon and end at 2:00 pm. This gives the people attending the 10:30 Mass time to get out to the new church site.
It was suggested we have cookies and refreshments. Mike and Marilou Finn volunteered to take care of the refreshments and arranging for cookies. Suggestions followed as to what to put in the cornerstone. The members of the Council will act as Host and Hostess for the event.
(C) St. Boniface Closing: Father Thom stated the Mass will be at 10:30 am on October 19th, with
Bishop Amos presiding and we will use the same format as St. Irenaeus closing. Father mentioned it is 100 years to the day of the dedication of St. Boniface. Liturgically all is done and Father asked Mary Beth to set up the arrangements for the luncheon, which will be at St. Boniface Hall. There will be a press release for the event.
(D) Transition Committee Report: Joe reported that items from the annex, St. Boniface, and
offices need to be moved to St. Irenaeus for the auction, which will be held on November 8th at 10:00 am and Greg Anderson will be the Auctioneer. Joe stated he will need help prior to November 8th to get items moved up to St. Irenaeus.

Faith Facilities Report: No written report. Father Tony reported in Dick Roberts absence. A couple of change orders were given. The Baptismal Font and the stained glass window have been approved. Ed Kross stated they are trying to take care of the issues concerning the awning and the low area on east side of the church. The office section is on target. The fabric has been picked out for the pews and it should be soon that the pew ends will be removed and we will be sitting on chairs in St Mary. Father mentioned that after the Mass change we have more people attending the Liturgies. Looking at getting about 500 chairs in St Mary for the balance of the year.

Prince of Peace School Report: Written report submitted. Ed O’Neill stated the enrollment for elementary this year is 107, grades 6-8 is 55 and 9-12 is 89. Our students have performed well again on the ACT test for college entrance.

COMMISSION REPORTS:

  • Parish Life Commission: No report.
  • Liturgical & Spiritual Life Commission: Written report submitted. Father Thom mentioned they are working on the closing of St. Boniface and will soon be planning the liturgy for the dedication and blessing of our new church. We have a sub-committee working and we are looking at the materials from other churches for ideas for the dedication.
  • Social Action Commission: Written report submitted. Marc said instead of just reviewing things that most people are aware of we are going to try and develop some ideas and strategies for making the parish aware of the Social Action Committee.

Finance Commission: No written report. Ed said he had three areas to bring us up-to-date. 1.  They are going to utilize the services of the Cunneen Company to help with regular offertory giving. The letters will be going out next week. Typically in a church that has 1500 registered members there is about 1/3 or 500 that give regularly. Ed said that this is typical of most churches. We are trying to reach out to the rest of the parish. They make a guarantee that after 12 weeks there will be an increase in regular offertory giving.  2.  The sale of the Parish office to the Victory Center will be October 1st and they will lease back to us for $1.00 plus utilities. They have to own the property before accessing the grant. 3.  The storage building for the church will be on the east side adjacent to the parking lot. We applied for a zoning variance because of the size. The zoning board granted the variance but Mr. Seeser has filed an appeal to try and block the decision. The hearing will be next Tuesday (September 23rd). The claim is that it will drop the value of his lots so we are awaiting the decision of the zoning board.
Faith Formation Commission: Written report submitted. Mary Jo asked if any questions on the report.
(1) Evangelization Committee: Written report submitted. Father Thom stated they would be having another Coming Home event on September 24th and the theme will be “Everything you wanted to know about the Catholic Church and are afraid to ask”. Father had asked Kathy DeMong if she would be willing to take over the leadership of this committee. Kathy is praying on this.
Stewardship: Written report submitted. Odelia reported that at the last meeting we divided the group into three sub-committees. They are: Ministry Fair, Welcoming and Lay Witnessing.

It was asked how many people are attending the Spanish Mass and Father Thom said we are averaging about 70-80 at each Mass. They are planning a big celebration for the Feast of our Lady of Guadalupe on December 14th. They want to open it up to the Parish to help celebrate the event.

Art Donart mentioned that due to privacy laws it is hard for the visiting Chaplain to know who is in the hospital.

Next meeting will be October 16, 2008 @ 7:00 p.m.

Father Tony ended with prayer.

We celebrated Father Tony’s birthday with a cake and a Happy Birthday song.

Respectfully submitted
Bev Putman
