PRINCE OF PEACE COUNCIL MINUTES
August 21 , 2008
“Walking Together, Growing in Faith”

Guest: Tom McEleney presented a flyer for an Oktoberfest Fundraiser. It will be Friday, October 17th, from 7 to 11 PM at Gil’s Ballroom. There will be music and food. Tickets are available at the Parish Office, Prince of Peace School and from Tom McEleney, phone 244-1210. The monies raised will go toward the Building Fund for our Church.

Opening Prayer: Father Tony led us in opening prayer with scripture readings followed by readings from Mary Jo Dopson, Steve Cahoy, Mary Beth Butt, Jeff Schuetzle and ending with Father Thom and our Parish Prayer.

Introductions: Lenny said that in place of Roll Call we will go around the room and introduce ourselves and give a brief synopsis of: “Name and family; What are you most excited about in regard to our new church; and dreams or hopes for our Parish”.

The Role of the Pastoral Council: Father Tony talked about the role of the council and the mission of the church. We need to be assisting and fostering pastoral activities that will help our Parish to move forward. We have no single agenda. The need to set long and short term goals, to listen and communicate back to the council, the pulse of our parish community, are a couple of the items that we will be working on. One of the major items accomplished last year was the start of the Evangelization Committee. We need to try and help with delegating more and involving more people in our Parish activities.
Parish Structure: Father Tony explained the purpose and the structure of the parish; Corporate Board, Finance Council, Pastoral Council and School Board. Father Tony did mention how much this Parish owes to Ed Kross and the many dedicated hours that he gives to our parish.

COMMISSION REPORTS:
Stewardship: Written report submitted. Odelia mentioned that Judy Johnson, a parishioner of Our Lady of Victory in Davenport, was our guest and she talked about their support of the Holistic Stewardship approach and supplied specific suggestions in four areas. The next meeting is Thursday, September 4, 2008 at the Parish Office.
Faith Formation: Written report submitted. Mary Jo stated the report has all current information and tried to encompass the year. Next meeting is September 30 at 12:15 PM at the Parish Office.
        1. Evangelization Committee: Written report submitted. Father Thom said they meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 PM, at the Parish Office. Father Thom said that it is the responsibility of all of us to be evangelizing.
Parish Life: No written report. Mary Beth Butt stated that they have no regular meetings, as there are many committees under this umbrella. Last year Fran, Bev and Mary Beth each took five (5) committees and stayed in touch to see if they needed any help.
Finance and Administration: No written report. In Ed’s absence, Dave Schnier stated that they meet every month on the third Wednesday. Dave mentioned they are a dedicated group of individuals who work very diligently to have a balanced budget.
Liturgy: No written report. Father Thom mentioned the full title of the commission is: Liturgical and Spirituality Commission. The commission works on all the liturgies for the different seasons, covering Music, Liturgical décor, Devotions, etc.
Social Action: Written report submitted. In Marc Smith’s absence Father Tony mentioned the many activities involved such as, Habitat for Humanity, Pax Christi, Peru Task Force, Pro-Life. Father also mentioned the group of people that go to the Victory Center every week with food. Next meeting is September 11, 7 PM at the Parish Office.
Facility Task Force: No written report. Mike Pittman stated the progress is moving forward. Windows are going in, siding is going on, and they are getting ready to lay the parking lot. The inside of the office section is a beehive of activity with all items being covered. Mike stated the office will be ready on time by November and it looks like January for the church.
Transitioning Committee: No written report. Joe said this committee was formed to try and get rid of the non-liturgical items. Joe stated that they would be cleaning out the Annex on August 30th from 9 to Noon. The auction will be some time in October when we can hire an auctioneer. We found lots of scrap metal at the St. Boniface site and have received enough monies to be self-sufficient in cost.
Prince of Peace School Report: Written report included. Ed O’Neill reported that they have 23 children registered for kindergarten, which is a significant increase. The school is now offering an After School Program for the K-5th grade students. The parents will be able to choose which school program is most convenient, the program offered at the St. Boniface site or at the school campus. The school board meets on the third Tuesday of each month.

Lenny mentioned the Diocesan Pastoral Council of which Jennifer Troxel (Trox) and he are part. Lenny and Trox will be attending the next meeting on Sunday, November 16th.

Upcoming Elections: Lenny mentioned if anyone is interested in any of the offices, President, Vice-President and Secretary, they should contact Lenny in the next couple of weeks. This election will take place at the September meeting. Lenny asked that we stay around for refreshments.

Father Tony mentioned that we will be having a gathering at the new church sometime in later September or early October for all parishioners and at that time we will lay the cornerstone. Father asked for a couple of volunteers to help with what will go in the cornerstone. Sr. Kathy Holland and Mary Beth Butt will work with Fr. Tony on this. Suggestions were offered.

Next Meeting - September 18, 2008 @ 7:00 P.M.

Father Tony ended with prayer.

Respectfully submitted
