Presentation by Habitat for Humanity: Art Ollie from Zion Lutheran gave a presentation on Habitat and the Apostles Build Program. The purpose of this presentation was to ask if we as a parish will be involved in 2010. The recipient for the Apostles Build Project 2010 is a member of our parish, Steve Notz. Art stressed this is not a hand-out but a hand-up with the mission/goal of Habitat being the elimination of substandard/poverty housing in the world.
Orientation for 2009-2010 Pastoral Council: Father Tony explained how the Diocese is set up with a Corporate Board, Finance Council, Pastoral Council and School Board. Father mentioned how fortunate we are to have Ed Kross head of Finance with all his expertise. With Lou Egging resigning, Mike Pittman has been invited to be on the Finance Council. Father explained the function of each, with the Pastoral Council assisting all pastoral activities that help the Parish move forward. Father mentioned that one of our goals is always to get more people involved. Father mentioned that there are four (4) new seminarians. Father also mentioned that as Pastoral Council members we need to keep our eyes and ears open about concerns of parishioners and to get that information to the council and to Father Tony. Bev will email the new list of 2009-2010 Pastoral Council. Father mentioned that every council member will be on one of the commissions.
Stewardship: Odelia stated that they meet the first Thursday of each month. We have been working on the Time and Talent Ministry Fair weekend which will be held this coming weekend. All commissions were contacted as to the critical areas where help is needed. Stewardship is a spiritual way of life and being a disciple of how we share our time, talent and treasure. Odelia mentioned that Kathy DeMong is now the chair of Stewardship.
Faith Formation: No written report. In Mary Jo’s absence Father reported that they have a meeting every month and they are involved with many ministries, such as Why Catholic, School events, Bible Study and Evangelization.
- Evangelization Committee: Father Thom stated that initially we tried to reach out to inactive members. We offered the “Footprints of God” series this summer. Jason Evert is coming to speak in our schools this fall.
Parish Life: Mary Beth Butt said that we are a family oriented group and we have no general meetings. We cover the Pork dinner, Block Party, Funeral Luncheons, to name a few. Jeff mentioned that the Block Party is August 30th from 4:00 to 6:30 PM. If anyone wants to volunteer for helping with games, serving food, picking up garbage, etc. please let him know.
Finance and Administration: Ed stated they meet the 3rd Wednesday of every month. Ed mentioned July is normally a slow month but this past July was very good. This fall we will have the Diocesan campaign and we are one of five parishes that will be in the pilot program. Our target is $941,000 with 20% return to the parish. All money received over the $941,000 will be returned to the parish. There will be a donor book display in the gathering area. Ed also mentioned the St Mary demolition. The parish salvaged what we wanted and the demolition crew has demolition rights. Many items sold before demolition, such as stained glass windows, Stations of the Cross and the Risen Christ. Ed mentioned they are still working on the St. Irenaeus building and that the rectory is still for sale. Some discussion on St. Boniface. We are still the owners until the Catholic Cultural Center get the 501-3C and are able to take care of the church financially.
Liturgical & Spiritual Life: Father Thom mentioned they will be having a meeting this coming Saturday. The statues of Mary and St Joseph will be touched up and soon will be ready to be displayed in their proper places. Father Thom mentioned that there will be a new Mass and Confession schedule. Father also mentioned that this is a year of the Priests so we want to pray and explore how we can emphasize this in our own parish.
- Social Action: Written report submitted. Marc Smith said that there are many committees under this umbrella, such as Habitat, Peru Task Force, Pax Christi, Pro-life, etc. These committees usually run themselves. Dave mentioned the charitable committee that distributes monthly Pantry collections.
- Facility Task Force: Father Tony mentioned that this committee is winding down and will be covered with the Finance Committee.
- Transitioning Committee: Stan stated everything was done last Thursday night and will probably net $1800-$2000. Stan said he will go to the dump tomorrow. He will get the check to the auctioneer. Father Tony thanked both Joe and Stan for all their work on this committee.
Upcoming elections for Officers: Father Tony said that he is going to suggest that everyone is eligible for election unless you give him a good reason. Bev said she would volunteer to be Secretary. Next meeting will be election of officers.
- Father stated he wants to acknowledge the great work that Joe and Marc have done the last few years. Father gave each a plaque stating such.
Next meeting will be September 17, 2009 @ 7:00 p.m. at the Parish Office
Father Tony and Father Thom led us in closing prayer.
- Respectfully submitted,
- Bev Putman
