School Board Representative: None

Staff Present: Brenda Bertram, Betty Mantsch, Dave Schnier
Finance Commission: Ed Kross
Excused Absent: None

Introductions: Lenny mentioned the great job done by Fran Cornwall and her group on the organization of the Groundbreaking ceremony. All members of the Pastoral Council gave a brief synopsis of: Name and Family; Special Thing You Like About Our Parish; and Dreams or Hopes for Our Parish.

Role of the Pastoral Council: Father Tony talked about the role of the council and how well the council worked together last year. The role of the council is to consult, listen, observe, communicate and to educate. We bring these observations to our meetings so they can be discussed. Father mentioned Evangelization as being a new committee this year. Our goal is to reach out to everyone in his or her time of need. Father mentioned that the staff decided that this was the year for a parish renewal. The theme will be “new wine into new wineskins” a renewed parish in a renewed worship space. Betty Mantsch explained what needs to be done before the renewal. The renewal is set for October 1st through 4th at 7:00 PM. Dave Schnier gave us a brief bio about Deacon Glenn and Linda Harmon. Dave asked for volunteers to help the staff with this renewal. Father again mentioned the role of the council is vital to our parish, it is the eyes and ears of the parish community.
Parish Structure: Father Tony explained the purpose and the structure of the parish, Corporate Board, Finance Council, Pastoral Council and the School Board.

COMMISSION REPORTS:
Stewardship: No written report. Odelia stated that they met on August 6th and are working on the Annual Appeal.
Faith Formation: No report. Betty said that they did not meet over the summer and will be meeting at the end of the month.
Evangelization Committee. No written report. No meeting in July but they did meet last week. We are still getting organized and going over the Apostolic Exhortation of Pope Paul VI. We discussed the letter that was drafted by Gary Herrity. The work of Evangelization is the work of everyone in the parish.
Family Life: Fran reported nothing was done over the summer. They are getting ready for the Winter Fantasy. Father mentioned the Block Party which will be Sunday, August 26th.
Finance and Administration: Ed mentioned that the cumulative figure of Phase I and II pledged is $5,676,000 and paid to date is a little over $4,000,000, which is a very impressive figure. Ed again mentioned that we have an offer of $250,000 from the Victory Center for the parish office. A bid was put together for the financing of our new church and it was sent to all the area banks and invited them to respond to our specifications. They all responded to the proposal. The decision was to go with Clinton National Bank because their interest rate was lower and it is locked into 10 years. Ed mentioned that we start a new fiscal year in July and that last year was a good year ending up in the black.
Liturgy: Father Thom stated no meeting last month. The next meeting will be on August 25th.
Social Action: Father Tony said that Mary Jo Lennon had been the chair of this committee. Marc Smith has agreed to take over the chair of this commission. Father said this commission has been very active. They have agreed to help Habitat for Humanity along with 11 other churches to help build a house. They are also working on the Food Resourses Bank. They meet every month, usually on a Saturday. A written report on the Charity Committee was submitted.
Faith Facility Task Force: Dick Roberts said there would be a construction meeting the first Thursday of every month. Steelwork has not been completely designed. The foundation is due to be poured this fall. The building should be completed sometime in August of 2008, with a projected date of October-November to be completed.

An item for discussion was the Survey that Father gave to all of us. We are asked to fill out this survey and bring to the September meeting and then share our challenges and issues in this renewal year.

Lenny said we will have Election of Officers at the September meeting. Lenny asked if anyone was interested to call or email Lenny, Jim or Bev.

Bev offered to help with the Renewal. Father mentioned to Steve and Stan that if they have a preference for a Commission to let Lenny know.

We ended with our Parish Prayer led by Father Tony.

Respectfully submitted,

Bev Putman
