PRINCE OF PEACE COUNCIL MINUTES
June 18, 2009
“Walking Together, Growing in Faith”

Deacons Present: Jeff Schuetzle
School Board Representative: Christy Roth
Staff Present: Annette Lyons and Dave Schnier
Finance Commission: Ed Kross
Excused Absent: Father Thom Hennen, Brenda Bertram, Steve Cahoy, Beverly Putman and Odelia Schrunk
Stan Tenboer requested that the auction be added to the agenda.
Guest Commentary: Kathy DeMong from the Stewardship Committee spoke about the upcoming Ministry Fair to be held in August. She stated help was needed from the council and the various parish ministries. More information will be in the bulletin and August newsletter.
Steve Mangler was introduced as a new council member. Charlie Minnick was also recently elected.

Pastor’s Report: Father Tony said that the Diocesan Planning Commission, because of the Diocesan Capital Campaign, will be extended to begin next spring. Prince of Peace will be one of five pilot parishes to begin the Diocesan Capital Campaign. The money contributed to the campaign will go into a foundation to be used by the Diocese. The goal for Prince of Peace is $941,379 with 20% coming back to the parish ($188,276 if goal is met). Fifty percent of the money raised over the goal will be returned to the parish. It will be a traditional campaign with a 3-5 year pledge. When the priests met in Iowa City this June, they were given a goal of $1,000,000. Sixty-eight priests pledged $717,700 with 40 more priests to be contacted. One advantage of being a pilot parish is more support from the Diocese and to be through with the campaign by December. A general Co-chairperson Couple is needed plus two other members. Odelia Schrunk has volunteered to be our campaign secretary. It will be necessary to recruit many people. Father Tony asked for prayers, guidance and success for the campaign. On September 12th, Bishop Amos will introduce the concept to Prince of Peace.

Prince of Peace School: A written report was submitted. Christy Roth reported that a statue of Mary that was being used at school will now be used in our new church. The statue was originally at St. Patrick’s church. A matching statue of St. Joseph was found through the King Richard’s Company.

Faith Facility: RDG is scheduled to return for a walk through on June 29th; a list of things needing to be fixed has been prepared. The new doors are on the way. A canopy over the handicap entrance is needed before winter.

Liturgical & Spiritual Life: Historical movies are to be viewed in the parish with discussion to follow.

Social Action: In November there will be a Peru Feast Day to be celebrated. It is hoped that we could sponsor a volunteer to Peru. Pro-Life has a major speaker coming to speak to young people. Pro-Life will be selling polo shirts. A bus trip to LaCrosse, WI to Our Lady of Guadalupe is scheduled for August 3rd, leaving at 6:00 am.

Finance: An obvious increase in envelope giving since the Cunneen campaign and opening of the new church. Attendance is up 200 a week since the Church Dedication. Demolition of St. Mary’s church will be paid from reserves. The parish budget for the fiscal year 2009-2010 was presented. Stan Tenboer moved to approve the budget. Seconded by Mike Finn.

Faith Formation:  Will not be meeting until fall.

Evangelization: A written report was submitted.

Abatement:  St. Mary’s will be demolished by August 15th. The priests have moved into the new rectory. A committee is in place for St. Boniface Cultural Center. The Clinton County Historical Society has expressed interest in the St. Irenaeus property.

Auction: Stan Tenboer requested approval to contract with an auctioneer to sell remaining miscellaneous items. They will charge 35%. Mike Rastrelli moved to approve, seconded by Mike Finn.

Next Meeting August 20, 2009 @ 7:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Marilou Finn
