Approval of Minutes: Approved as printed.
Pastor’s Report: Father Tony thanked everyone that attended the May 10th meeting. Father asked that the motion that was unanimously approved at the May 10 meeting be restated for the record. Joe Leonard made a motion, seconded by Mike Rastrelli “The Pastoral Council unanimously endorses the building of the complete church and offices on our site.” There may be a deficit of approximately $900,000 for this project but on-going campaign efforts and the sale of parish assets (offices) will offset some of this deficit. Father suggested July 8th, as the date for the groundbreaking as the Bishop is available on that date. Mike Rastrelli made a motion, seconded by Cathy Eggers, that the groundbreaking be set for July 8, 2007. Fran Cornwell volunteered to head up the committee for the groundbreaking event and many council members also volunteered to help.
Facilities Report: Dick Roberts said all the contractors for the site work have been selected. The bids all came in under the original estimates. The letter of intent to Estes has been sent. Father mentioned that there will be milestones along the way and we need to celebrate these. Some work on the grounds will be started before the groundbreaking date of July 8.
Old Business:
Pastoral Council Elections: Bev stated that she heard from all members that were outgoing and had names of two new parishioners that were interested in running. They have both said they would turn in the necessary paperwork and any outgoing members that are going to rerun need to turn in their paperwork. Father stated it has been in the bulletins the past weeks and the elections for both the Pastoral Council and the School Board would be held on the weekend of June 9-10. We need to elect four members to the Pastoral Council and three to the School Board.
New Business:
Choose Discussion Topic for Next Meeting: The next meeting (June) will be the last meeting with this council so Father suggested that we do a review of the past year and its happenings and have some refreshments. We also need to acknowledge the members going off the board at this meeting. Lenny said he would be in charge of refreshments.
Prince of Peace School Report: No written report. Cyndi Winter reported that the high school students went on a service day last week. May Crowning was the first Friday in May. They also had a food drive this past week. Cyndi also said they would be adding 10 new computers that were donated last fall. They also have a website that we are invited to look at: Website: www.prince.pvt.K12.ia.us. Father Tony and Cyndi also reported that their budget is in the black.
COMMISSION REPORTS:
Parish Life: No Report
Liturgical & Spiritual Life Commission: Father Thom stated that the April meeting was cancelled. They will be meeting on May 26 and will be discussing who will take over the Environment Committee and discussing the Liturgical aspect of the groundbreaking. They will also be discussing the use of Sacred Heart for the 11:00 am Mass during the hot months of the summer. All the Council members thought the use of Sacred Heart during the summer was a good idea.
Social Action Commission: No meeting. Father said they would be meeting this next Saturday. There will be discussion on a new program called “Apostles Build”. Prince of Peace was invited to be one of the 12 churches involved in the program for Habitat for Humanity.
Finance Commission: Ed said they met last night (May 16) and that there is a group interested in the office building. Ed also said that envelope giving was up through the first 10 months and again stated that we are a very giving parish. Ed also said that it is possible we will be having a 3rd campaign to offset the 900,000 debt. Much discussion followed.
Faith Formation: Written report submitted. Betty Mantsch mentioned that Vacation Bible School would be held at Zion Lutheran June 17 through 21. Betty also mentioned the help of Jeff Schuetzle these past 14 years with the Family Sessions group.
1. Update on Evangelization Committee: Father Thom mentioned they met May 8th and will be meeting again on June 12. They will continue the discussion on the Documents of Evangelization of the Modern World.
Stewardship Committee: Odelia reported on the letters sent out to some parishioners who have been invited to join the Stewardship Committee.
Mary Beth asked about the usage of St. Boniface and St. Irenaeus churches during the summer. Father Tony said they would be using both churches for weddings and funerals. Father also mentioned that Ronni Schoenle will be retiring on May 31st and a new receptionist has been hired. Her name is Molli Parker.
Next meeting will be June 21, 2007 at 7:00 pm.
Deacon Jeff led us in closing prayer.
Respectfully submitted,
Bev Putman
