Pastor’s Report: Father Tony wanted to thank everyone for their generosity during the Christmas Holidays, open house at the Rectory, Bishop Amos’ visit, and the Irish Auction. Father mentioned how blessed we are to have Bishop Amos. Results from the Mass count that is taken every year on two consecutive weekends show we were #4 in the Diocese as to attendance for weekend Masses. Father mentioned that the Newman singers would like to come to the Parish on March 10th and sing at the 4:00 pm Mass and have a concert at 7:00 pm. Father said we received a letter from the Pastor of our sister parish in Sapillica thanking us for our aid in helping them put on a new roof.
Facilities Report: Written report submitted. Mike stated they had a meeting with city council members about detailing our site layout. In early December, meetings were held with RDG and all contractors for the church. Mike stated we have added a sound engineer consultant and acoustical engineer to the project team. We are working with the Weidt group on an energy conservation program.
Old Business:
A. November 20th Town Hall Meeting Comments: Lenny mentioned that it was a great article in the Clinton Herald and the turnout was wonderful and the number of students represented was great. Brenda said the credit for that must go to the school. Most everyone was impressed by the presentation. It was mentioned that most of the comments were very good and no negative input was noted. RDG did a wonderful job with the presentation.
B. November 30th Clergy Sexual Abuse Forum Comments: All the people who attended thought it was well worthwhile and it put into prospective the problem that is worldwide. Deacon Jeff mentioned how open the forum was.
C. Update on Evangelization Committee: Father Thom said the initial meeting will be held on January 23rd and we will be discussing the What, Where and How of this committee.
New Business:
A. Examine Parish Life Committee & Sub-Committee: Mary Beth questioned how to handle this large commission. After much discussion it was suggested that maybe the ministries be split between Mary Beth, Fran and Bev from the Council to help in any area of ministry that might need assistance and maybe meet quarterly to discuss any areas of need and to respond to those needs.
B. Choose Discussion Topic for Next Meeting: Discussion There was discussion of the topics. After some discussion, Cathy Eggers suggested we combine #20 and #22 and make our topic: “Evangelization of people coming into or returning to the church and how do we identify and welcome the new members?”
Prince of Peace School Report: A written report was submitted. Diana Gray stated that Catholic Schools Week is approaching and that Bishop Amos will be visiting the school on Monday, January 29th. Diana also mentioned the Irish Auction this coming Saturday at CCA.
COMMISSION REPORTS:
A. Parish Life: Covered under New Business Item A.
B. Liturgical & Spiritual Life Commission: A written report was submitted. Father Thom mentioned the positive feedback on the All Souls’ Day Mass. Discussion followed on the Advent ministries, Devotional Life, Music and Environment. Father also mentioned Bishop Amos’ visit on January 14th.
C. Social Action Commission: A written report was submitted. Lenny reported that Food Resources might be using part of our 23 acres for their project while the church is being built.
D. Finance Commission: Ed mentioned we had an OUTSTANDING December. He again stated that we have a very generous parish. Ed stated we have exceeded our goal for the Diocesan Appeal in pledges. We have in hand over $3.1 million dollars for the “Building Peace” campaign. Ed wants to encourage everyone to contribute to the Catholic Messenger. Ed also mentioned we had a house donated to us. The house has been appraised at about $50,000. There was some discussion about the dollar amount being left off the Catholic Messenger envelope and also the DCCW envelope.
F. Faith Formation: Kathy DeMong stated they had a written report submitted.
G. Stewardship: Kathy DeMong stated that Stewardship is a conversion process and could take up to 20 years or a generation to complete. Kathy stated that the committee is having the commissions and committees contact everyone who signed up for a ministry. Comments from the phone calls have been positive. Kathy also mentioned they have Stewardship Recognition Forms and we are asking the council to help get the word out about recognizing parishioners for their many good ministries. Kathy also stated that we would like to have members of the council prayerfully consider participating in the Stewardship institute and especially urges the Finance committee to attend.
Next meeting will be February 15, 2007 at 7:00 pm at St. Boniface Hall.
Father Tony led us in our Parish Prayer.
Respectfully submitted,
Bev Putman
